What Will Happen If The Rapid HIV Test Comes Back Positive?

If a rapid HIV test comes back positive it can mean that you have been infected with the HIV virus.

Occasionally there are “false positives”, this is when the rapid HIV test shows a positive result when the person has not been exposed to the HIV virus.

If the test strip come back with a positive or indeterminate result, additional blood tests will be organised to recheck these results. The blood will be sent to a laboratory where different testing mechanisms will be used.
