The following video shows what will happen during your appointment when you get a rapid HIV test.
Getting a rapid HIV test is a straight forward procedure that takes approximately 30 minutes.
Your doctor will talk with you about why you wish to get a rapid HIV test and what exposures you may have had.
Once you are happy to go ahead your finger will be pricked and a drop of blood is collected with a special pipette. The blood is then placed upon the rapid HIV test strip.
The test takes 20 minutes to develop.
The possible results are: negative, positive or indeterminate.
If a HIV test comes back positive or indeterminate additional blood will need to be taken for formal laboratory testing.
